Keep your dog warm!

Just like us dogs get cold. Now that it is getting cold outside have you bought your little friend a coat or sweater yet? Dogs have fur, but it doesn’t keep them as warm as it should. Especially little dogs, their fur is more like hair. Doesn’t your head get cold when you aren’t wearing a hat? Imagine not wearing clothes.
Small dogs cannot take the cold as much as bigger dogs can. Some of the smaller breeds that really need a coat are Yorkshire Terriers, Maltese, Chinese Cresteds, Dachshunds, Silky Terriers, and Chihuahuas. They are all so small that they can’t take the cold or cold rain and love to be happy and dry. You can get them sweaters, coats, or even dog costumes so they can wear it in different events. Pugs and welsh corgis are not teacup size, but they do have short hair. Even though they don’t “need” a coat would they be adorable nonetheless in one? Fashion is sometimes the only thing that matters. Boxers are a big breed, and are very muscular but they have short hair and smashed faces and do not do well in the cold at all. Your boxer would look great in a coat or sweater, maybe even a corduroy dog jacket?
Do you have a short haired dog that has to run outside to get off excess energy? If your dog is a breed such as an Italian Greyhound, Basenji, Vizla or a Weimaraner then you need to get them a Barn Coat. These breeds do not do well in the cold, but must have proper exercise. You can get them a barn coat which is easy to Velcro around them. This works well for active dogs so it doesn’t come off when they are on the go.
Older dogs need a little extra care. You can get them a fleece lined coat that will keep them warm and comfortable. If your dog has problems with arthritis a sweater or coat can help their bodies stay warm so they do not endure so much pain from the arthritis. They also make therapeutic dog coats for those who are old or sick.
